Steady the Breath
Learning to breathe slowly, smoothly, and with full awareness — the foundation on which everything else rests.
Vaasi Yogam — the sadhana of the breath, handed down by the Siddhars.
வாசி (vasi) means breath — more precisely, the subtle life-current that rides upon the breath. The Siddhars observed a simple truth: the mind follows the breath. When the breath is agitated, the mind is agitated; when the breath grows still and refined, the mind settles into profound quiet.
Vaasi Yogam is the systematic sadhana built on this truth. Through patient, disciplined regulation and refinement of the breath, the practitioner steadies the body, calms the emotions, concentrates the mind, and turns awareness inward — toward the stillness the Siddhars called liberation.
It is not exercise, and it is not mere relaxation. It is an inner science: the same breath that sustains the body becomes, when mastered, the ladder the Siddhars climbed.
Learning to breathe slowly, smoothly, and with full awareness — the foundation on which everything else rests.
As the breath refines, the restless waves of thought subside, and the mind gathers into one-pointed focus.
In that stillness, the practitioner turns toward the inner light — the Siddhars' promise that the divine breathes within.
The Siddhar path rewards patience over intensity. If you are new, begin simply:
Choose a quiet time and place. Sit upright — on a chair or the floor — with the spine erect but relaxed, hands resting easily.
For the first weeks, do nothing but observe the natural breath flowing in and out. Do not force or strain; gentle awareness is enough.
Ten sincere minutes every morning outweigh an occasional long sitting. Regularity is the Siddhars' first instruction.
Simple vegetarian food, moderation, honesty, and kindness are not side-rules — in this tradition they are part of the sadhana itself.
Deeper breath practices are traditionally transmitted face-to-face, with guidance matched to the student. Never force the breath or practice advanced techniques from books or videos alone.
